The US Department of Justice released its latest - and largest - tranche of Jeffrey Epstein files on Tuesday.
The 11,000-plus documents continue a stream of released information that began on Friday, the deadline mandated in a new law requiring the department to publicly disclose all investigative files concerning the deceased paedophile and financier.
Many of the documents released are redacted, concealing names and details about potential co-conspirators identified by the FBI in the Epstein case. The justice department faces bipartisan criticism regarding the redactions, as the law specifies they should only be utilized to protect victims' identities or ongoing criminal investigations.
President Donald Trump's name surfaced more frequently in these new documents than in previous releases. Notably, one email from a federal prosecutor mentioned Trump had flown on Epstein's jet. However, the justice department stated that some of the files contained untrue and sensationalist claims about Trump's involvement.
Another significant revelation involves an email from an individual identified as A to Ghislaine Maxwell, discussing inappropriate friends while at a royal family summer camp. This exchange adds another layer of intrigue to the ongoing investigation and raises questions about the socio-political ties among high-profile individuals.
Among the documents, a 2019 FBI email lists 10 alleged co-conspirators tied to Epstein, six of whom had been served subpoenas. The public's interest is ignited by the potential identities of these individuals and their connections to Epstein.
Additionally, the justice department dismissed a widely circulated letter supposedly from Epstein to Larry Nassar, classifying it as a fake document with multiple inconsistencies that suggest it could not have originated from Epstein.
