Russia launched more than 700 drones and missiles at Ukraine in multiple waves overnight, killing at least 18 people in what local officials described as the deadliest attack in months. In southern Odesa, nine fatalities were reported, alongside five in the central city of Dnipro and four – including a 12-year-old boy – in the capital, Kyiv. Eyewitnesses shared images of vast fires and smoke in Kyiv, where drone strikes led to severe destruction. Kyiv’s mayor confirmed that rescuers had saved a mother and child from the wreckage of a collapsed building, but injuries were reported for at least 45 others, including emergency responders.

In response, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called the assault a demonstration of the urgent need for sustained sanctions against Russia. Meanwhile, in Russia's Krasnodar region, officials indicated that a Ukrainian drone attack killed two, including a child. This escalation follows a brief ceasefire during Orthodox Easter, amid ongoing conflict that began with Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

The Ukrainian government is urging allies to provide more military support and has expressed concerns over a shortage of essential missile defense systems, which were underscored by Zelensky's warnings about waning capabilities against such aerial assaults. As tensions rise, global attention remains focused on the potential for further humanitarian crises.
