Russian Forces Target Kostyantynivka: A Key Gateway to Donbas

The strategic city of Kostyantynivka in eastern Ukraine has become a focal point of the latest Russian offensive. Russian troops have infiltrated the town, moving to encircle it and establish control over the area that borders the rest of the Donbas region.

Ukrainian commanders insist that the city remains under control, citing a resolute defense. However, a Ukrainian drone pilot reports that Russian troops are present in both the north and south of the city, carving out a “grey zone” where every building can serve as a haven for enemy soldiers.

Captured Russian footage from the Ministry of Defence shows damaged buildings and Russian troops moving through streets, underscoring the intensity of the assault. The footage illustrates the Kremlin’s strategy to isolate Kostyantynivka and sever supply routes to Ukraine’s remaining eastern strongholds such as Kramatorsk and Sloviansk.

While Ukrainian forces employ drones to target Russian infantry, the enemy compensates by using artillery, multiple rocket launchers, and low‑cost Chinese drones for close‑range surveillance. This approach has caused significant damage to Ukrainian launch sites and has limited the effectiveness of Ukrainian air operations.

The logistics chain for Ukrainian troops is now hampered by continuous land‑route attacks and intercepting supply drones, making resupply missions perilous. Reports suggest that the situation may soon turn into a “major crisis,” with the potential loss of Kostyantynivka putting Ukrainian defenses in the East at extreme risk.

Ukrainian monitors note that the town’s fall would force a re‑evaluation of operational plans across the front, potentially threatening the safety of forces stationed in Kramatorsk and beyond. Until Russian forces are fully withdrawn, the area remains a critical point of contention, and Ukraine’s ability to sustain its eastern campaign will hinge on breaking the new momentum established by Russian occupation troops.
