Overnight Russian air strikes have killed at least four people, including three young children, in Ukraine's north-eastern Kharkiv region, local officials have reported. The regional head, Oleh Synegubov, stated that two boys, both aged two, a one-year-old girl, and a 34-year-old man died when a drone hit their house in the town of Bohodukhiv. Additionally, a 35-year-old pregnant woman and a 73-year-old woman were injured in the attack.
This aerial assault comes as Moscow resumes strikes after a brief pause requested by Donald Trump while harsh cold weather gripped Ukraine. Bohodukhiv has faced almost daily Russian attacks recently, with previous strikes resulting in additional casualties, including a 41-year-old woman and a 10-year-old boy just days prior.
Reports also indicate that recent bombing campaigns have targeted other regions, including Slovyansk, where three people were killed, including an 11-year-old girl. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced that the pressure on energy infrastructure has increased, leading to a state of emergency in Kharkiv due to significant power outages affecting thousands of residents. A prior truce aimed at allowing energy repairs during extreme cold temperatures had recently expired, exacerbating conditions for civilians.
As tensions rise, Zelensky mentioned the U.S. has expressed a desire for the conflict with Russia to conclude by June, with discussions anticipated to take place in the upcoming week. Meanwhile, an attack by Ukrainian drones reportedly occurred in Volzhsky, Russia, causing damage and highlighting the intensifying cycle of violence in the region.
