Afghan police in Nimroz province foiled a human trafficking attempt on Saturday, rescuing 57 individuals and seizing five vehicles used for the smuggling operation, Xinhua reported.
The provincial police spokesman, Mawlawi Gul Mohammad Qudrat, said the traffickers were attempting to illegally take the 57 people out of the country, but the police identified and stopped the operation. No details were provided about arrests of the suspected traffickers.
Earlier that week, police in the same province rescued 127 people from suspected human traffickers, underscoring the ongoing danger posed by trafficking in an area weakened by war and poverty.
