One person was killed and eight others wounded Saturday in a shooting that erupted outside Birmingham’s Legion Field after the Magic City Classic football game. Police said the gunfire began shortly after 7:50 p.m. local time on the 400 block of Graymont Avenue West.
Officer Darrell Freeman told a press conference that officers responded and found multiple gunshot victims. He said nine people were shot, one of whom was confirmed dead, while the other eight were wounded, one in critical condition and seven in stable condition.
Police recovered several firearms at the scene, and one person was detained and taken to police headquarters for questioning.
