On Wednesday, Pakistan’s armed forces carried out a series of air strikes along the border with Afghanistan, targeting four locations that the government said were used by militants.
Information Minister Attaullah Tarar confirmed that the calibrated strikes destroyed three militant hideouts and an ammunition cache, killing 26 fighters. Afghanistan’s Taliban spokesman reported that the raids had hit positions in Kunar, Khost and Paktika provinces; 13 people were killed, including 11 children.
The assault marks the first escalation since a violent flare‑up in February that left hundreds dead. The two governments had agreed a cease‑fire in October after weeks of deadly clashes see details.
Pakistan insists it is acting to protect its citizens against terrorist attacks that it claims are supported by Afghan territory, a claim that the Taliban rejects. The government said it aims to remain peaceful while prioritising national security.
The incident has drawn international attention, with leaders urging both sides to resume talks and avoid further bloodshed.
