PONTIAC, Mich. (AP) — A Michigan synagogue shared striking images on social media depicting the extensive fire damage after an assailant crashed his pickup truck into the building last week, subsequently taking his own life. Temple Israel, located in suburban Detroit, posted the photos to address misinformation circulating in the media that had adversely affected survivors of the incident. The visuals captured the scene with unconsumed snacks and sweets abandoned during the midday attack, showcasing exposed electrical wiring and charred walls marked by celebratory pictures destroyed by flames.

The synagogue commented on their Facebook page, stating: 'This is our sacred space, and we will be the ones to tell its story.' On March 12, Ayman Ghazali, 41, conducted the attack, hitting a security guard after waiting in the parking lot for hours. He was armed with commercial-grade fireworks and jugs of gasoline. The FBI confirmed that no children or staff members were injured in the attack. Although the motive is still under investigation, police were alerted by Ghazali's ex-wife about his concerning behavior shortly before the assault. Ghazali, a naturalized U.S. citizen, was mourning the loss of family members killed in an Israeli airstrike just a week prior.
