Kenya has confirmed its first case of Ebola – a Kenyan national living in the Democratic Republic of Congo for the past seven years.
Health Minister Aden Duale said the patient fell ill a month ago and, after treatment in several DR-Congo hospitals, died a few days after arriving in Nairobi.
The man boarded a flight on Saturday and passed normal screening at Nairobi’s main airport before a relative rushed him to a city hospital. Tests confirmed the presence of the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus.
More than 4,000 deaths from Ebola have already been recorded in DR-Congo this year, making it the second deadliest outbreak in the country’s history.
Officials are continuing investigations and will provide further updates as the situation evolves.
