In brief

Ukraine’s Energy Ministry reported a forced reduction in nuclear power output after Russian strikes on the electric grid. The ministry confirmed that repairs are underway and that the country is experiencing widespread blackouts, especially in the capital. President Zelensky noted the scale of drone and missile attacks that contributed to the power failure.

Ukraine’s Energy Ministry announced on Nov. 5 that its nuclear power plants are forced to reduce output after large‑scale Russian attacks on the national power grid.

The ministry said the plants would gradually return to normal operating levels once power‑grid repairs are complete.

According to the statement, the attacks left consumers without electricity in six regions, and scheduled outages are in effect across most of the country, with the capital and surrounding area experiencing the greatest shortages.

Repair crews are working around the clock to restore a stable power supply.

President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia had launched 289 drones, 17 ballistic missiles, and 59 cruise missiles in an overnight attack targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

The Russian Ministry of Defence reported that earlier that night, its air‑defence forces intercepted and destroyed 496 Ukrainian fixed‑wing unmanned aerial vehicles over some regions, the Sea of Azov, and the Black Sea.
