U.S. President Donald Trump concluded a two-day summit in Beijing after claiming he struck 'fantastic trade deals, great for both countries.' However, details of the agreements between the superpowers remain vague, raising questions about the summit's outcomes.

Accompanied by a high-profile business delegation, Trump aimed to bolster trade ties during the talks, which occurred amidst lingering tensions over global issues, including the Iran conflict. The vision for increased trade was met with a curated itinerary of warm gestures, including state banquets and military honors.

Trump described the summit as 'very successful' and invited Xi to the White House in September, a move welcomed by officials in Beijing. Nevertheless, both sides left with few concrete trade breakthroughs announced.

Among the most discussed points were a potential order for 200 Boeing jets, with an additional commitment to purchase more, according to Trump. Meanwhile, he assured U.S. farmers that significant soybean sales to China would be forthcoming. Despite these assertions, there has been no official confirmation from Chinese representatives regarding the deals.

Interestingly, the discussions reportedly did not address tariffs, which had been a critical aspect of previous negotiations. Instead, both leaders established a 'Board of Trade' to manage ongoing economic relations without reopening the contentious tariff discussions.

The summit also highlighted the increasing relevance of technology and trade relations, particularly concerning electric vehicles and artificial intelligence. CEO's from major tech firms, including Tesla's Elon Musk and Nvidia's Jensen Huang, were prominently featured, suggesting that advancements in these areas remain significant aspects of Sino-American relations.

In a broader context, while Xi promised access to the Chinese market would widen for American businesses, unresolved issues, especially relating to Taiwan and the ongoing situation in Iran, linger in the backdrop of these high-stakes discussions.
