Russian ballistic missiles struck zones east of Kyiv in the early hours of Saturday, killing three people, one of them a child, according to Ukrainian authorities.
Witnesses reported powerful explosions; falling debris damaged apartment blocks and cars, while a fire erupted in a separate building, said Timur Tkachenko, head of regional military administration.
Emergency crews battled flames at a garage and a fuel depot, with Mayor Vitaly Klitchko reporting on Telegram that fire suppression crews were still working the scene.
The Ukrainian state emergency service released images of burning garages and a shop, noting that victim numbers were still being clarified.
President Volodymyr Zelensky, who is now in Serbia, highlighted Ukraine’s limited capacity to intercept missiles as defensive interceptors dwindle, calling for stronger support from allies.
He warned that a lack of interceptor stockpiles had caused horrific casualties and that improved systems could have saved lives during earlier deadly attacks.
Ukraine’s recent strikes on two Russian oil refineries and Black Sea vessels aim to cut Russian war funding, as talks with Moscow have stalled, increasing overall tensions.
