Germany Says Russia Behind Leipzig Airport Drone Attack

Germany has said Russia was responsible for a drone attack at Leipzig’s airport on 4 August.

Investigators discovered a drone carrying an explosive device near Ukrainian cargo planes at Leipzig/Halle Airport. The device failed to detonate because the detonator was defective, and security teams suspect a second drone collided with a nearby cargo aircraft.

Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said the attack followed the “well‑established pattern of Russian hybrid operations in Europe” and warned that Germany could be targeted again. While Russia had previously denied involvement, security experts and analysts have speculated that Russian forces were behind the drone.
