At least 12 people, including two children and six railway workers at a state Ukrzaliznytsia depot in Kyiv, were killed and 20 injured during overnight Russian missile and drone attacks on Ukraine’s capital.
Russian officials said the "massive strike using high‑precision weapons" targeted Ukrainian military and energy facilities, while one person was also killed in a Ukrainian strike on Russia’s western Belgorod region.
The attacks came after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged President Vladimir Putin to end the war at a security summit in Kyrgyzstan, adding that India’s economy relies heavily on discounted Russian oil.
President Volodymyr Zelensky reported nearly 350 rescue workers had worked overnight in Kyiv and its surroundings after the latest strikes, and that Russia had launched a "significant number of jet drones and ballistic missiles". The assault marks the sixth day of sustained Russian attacks on Kyiv, a strategy aimed at exhausting Ukrainian air defences and undermining civilian morale.
Additional casualties were reported in the nearby town of Boryspil, where a residential building was hit, killing four people, including an Indian national. Russian forces also targeted a major port in Ust‑Luga, which handles millions of tonnes of petroleum products each year. Ukrainian officials consider such attacks legitimate as they support the Russian war effort.
