Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk confirmed that a man has been detained in connection with an alleged plan to assassinate him and Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak‑Kamysz.
The interior ministry said police received credible information about a potential attack earlier this week, leading to an emergency meeting of security services.
Security services uncovered an email forwarded to the State Protection Service, which outlines a concrete plan against the officials. The suspect, identified as Jacek Dobrzynski, is a Polish national arrested in the Lower Silesia region.
“In this case we are talking about a strong likelihood that these threats could actually be carried out,” a Special Services Coordinator spokesman said.
Tusk thanked the police for “swift and decisive action,” highlighting the gravity of the situation and the importance of vigilance over the nation’s political leaders.
The arrest follows Tusk’s return to office in 2023 after a previous stint from 2007–2014, during which he also served as President of the European Council (2014‑2019). The incident is a stark reminder of the security threats facing Europe’s leaders in an increasingly volatile geopolitical climate.
