Two Injured in Stabbing Attack at Edmonton Sikh Temple

A man was arrested after an early‑morning stabbing left two people wounded inside Edmonton’s Nanaksar Gurdwara, police said.

Officials recorded the incident at about 5:00 a.m. local time (12:00 BST). While authorities have not identified the suspect or revealed a motive, the police remain on scene and the temple is closed to the public during the investigation.

The assault followed last week’s investigation of threatening calls to Sikh gurdwaras in Calgary, two hours south of Edmonton. The World Sikh Organization described the perpetrator as an “intruder” who attacked individuals inside the facility and reportedly desecrated a copy of the Sikh scripture.

In a statement, the organization said the incident was “deeply troubling” and that it reflects a broader surge of anti‑Sikh hate across Canada. Calgary’s mayor Jeromy Farkas condemned the threats on social media, calling them “utterly disgusting” and reiterated that gurdwaras are places of hospitality and service where everyone is welcome.

The police continue to investigate, and they have urged anyone with information about the attacker to come forward.
