Russia launched a barrage of missile attacks overnight on Kyiv and its surrounding region, killing at least eight civilians and injuring 33, according to Ukrainian authorities.
The State Emergency Service reported that apartment blocks and warehouses were hit in what it called a "massive attack" on Thursday. Rescue teams rushed to the sites, pulling two survivors from the rubble while the damaged infrastructure caused a widespread power outage.
Meanwhile, Romania said a drone crossed into its territory 13 km east of Galaţi, triggering an air‑alert siren. The unmanned aircraft crashed into an uninhabited area, producing a small fire that was extinguished with no casualties reported.
Poland’s military announced the start of defensive air operations to protect its shared south‑eastern border with Ukraine. Kiev’s mayor, Vital Klitschko, confirmed that a children’s hospital had been damaged, with broken windows and nearby cars set ablaze.
In the Brovary district, the regional governor, Tymur Tkachenko, said the strike killed one man and wounded another, and local authorities had issued shelter alerts as airborne warnings circulated.
The attacks came amid a pattern of near‑daily bombardments on Kyiv in recent weeks, with Ukrainian forces simultaneously conducting extensive operations inside Russian territory. Reports indicate that in the past week Ukraine launched over 1,500 drones and 1,560 guided bombs toward Moscow, while Russia has responded with over 60 missile strikes across Ukraine.
The war has continued without any substantive progress toward a ceasefire, with both sides accusing each other of targeting civilians. Russia still controls roughly a fifth of Ukrainian territory—primarily in the eastern border regions—while the conflict looms over the entire country.
