Morgan Geyser, known for her involvement in the infamous Slender Man stabbing case, has been recaptured by police in Illinois after fleeing from a group home in Wisconsin. Geyser, now 23, escaped on Saturday night by removing her monitoring device and was on the run until she was located the following day at a truck stop in Posen, Illinois.
Upon her arrest, Geyser reportedly instructed the officers to 'just Google' her name, hinting at her troubling past. She and an unidentified man were found sleeping outside a truck stop, around 170 miles south of her last known location.
In 2014, Morgan Geyser, along with her friend Anissa Weier, attacked their classmate Payton Leutner, stabbing her 19 times in a misguided attempt to appease Slender Man, a fictional character from online horror folklore. Payton survived the attack after being discovered by a cyclist, leading to a widely publicized trial.
Geyser was sentenced to 40 years in a mental institution and was granted conditional release earlier this year. The case drew significant media attention and raised questions about mental health, adolescence, and the influence of online culture.
After her recapture, police indicated that Geyser had initially attempted to hide her identity but eventually revealed her true self when pressed. The man she was with was charged with trespassing and obstructing identification, and later released.
The Slender Man narrative has been linked to various incidents across the U.S. and remains a topic of discussion regarding the impact of online horror stories on young minds.
