US authorities are searching for six people after a medical plane bound for Boston went missing early Saturday morning.

The Gulfstream G-100, belonging to Latitude Air Ambulances, launched from Bermuda’s L.F. Wade International Airport at 23:40 local time and was scheduled to land at Boston’s Logan International at 01:30 EDT.

Flight data shows the aircraft abruptly dropped from about 7,300 m (24,000 ft) to 3,300 m (11,000 ft) before losing contact after 1:00 local time (6:00 GMT).

An air and water search has been launched off Nantucket by the US Coast Guard's Northeast District as the plane failed to report any position.

The Federal Aviation Administration issued a search‑and‑rescue notice, and responders are combing the waters and surrounding airspace for any clues or the missing craft.
