Cornell Students Demand Accountability After Fraternity Rape Hearing
Students at Cornell University gathered for a public hearing led by the Student Assembly, voicing sharp anger over an alleged rape that took place in 2024 at a campus fraternity house.
The victim, referred to as Jane Doe, has filed a civil lawsuit claiming she was drugged and assaulted during a party. In response, the university asserted that it had appropriately penalized involved parties and pledged to engage an independent investigator to review the incident.
Students cited the hearing as a warning that campus rape culture remains pervasive and urged the university to implement stricter safety measures, transparent accountability, and expanded support for survivors.
The meeting, covered by BBC journalist Nada Tawfik, underscored the urgency for broader reforms across collegiate campuses nationwide to protect student safety and ensure justice for victims.
