An SUV plunged into a 300‑meter‑deep gorge in the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand on the early hours of Thursday, killing four men and leaving one woman seriously injured and two women missing, a local police officer confirmed.
The vehicle was carrying six passengers in addition to the driver, comprising three men and three women—all from the western state of Gujarat and on a pilgrimage in Uttarakhand.
All four fatalities were men, including the driver, while the injured passenger and the two missing passengers were women.
The SUV ultimately landed in a river below the gorge, prompting a search operation that is still underway to locate the missing women.
