In brief

The missing group vanished on Oct. 29 after an avalanche in Uttarakhand’s Kedartal area, and a 10‑member rescue team was called off by Monday. Search is scheduled to resume Tuesday, while a separate report lists the names of the missing individuals.

Eight people – seven trekkers and a local guide – have been missing in Uttarakhand’s Kedartal area for six days after an avalanche struck on Oct. 29, according to a local official reported by Xinhua on Nov. 3.

The group had begun a three‑day trek on Oct. 27 and first filed a missing‑person claim with their trekking agency on Oct. 29, the official said. Three porters and a cook were rescued three days ago.

On Monday, a 10‑member Mountain Rescue Team, consisting of six State Disaster Response Force members and four from the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering, was air‑lifted to the valley to locate the missing group. The operation was cancelled by Monday evening because of rough weather, and the rescue is expected to resume on Tuesday.

India Today also reported that eight people remain missing in the Kedartal trek after heavy snowfall, confirming the missing count and the status of the search.

Only Times of India offered details on the missing, naming the seven trekkers Tapas Bauri, Ratan Ghosh, Manoj Khovas, Rintu Mandal, Uday Ghosh, Deepika Verma, and the guide Vartika as the individuals who vanished in the avalanche.
