At least 25 people were killed and 22 injured in intercommunal clashes between two sister communities in the border area between Chad’s western provinces of Hadjer‑Lamis and Barh el Gazel, Xinhua said late Saturday.
The Ministry of Territorial Administration and Decentralization said the clashes involved two sister communities.

In a statement posted on social media, the ministry said 39 people had been arrested and transferred to the capital, N’Djamena, for further judicial proceedings. A later confirmation stated that a total of 49 arrests had been made.
The government dispatched a delegation led by Minister of Public Security and Immigration Ali Ahmat Aghabach to the affected area to address the situation.
Authorities pledged to conduct a full investigation, establish responsibility, and ensure that judicial proceedings take their course.
They also committed to promoting dialogue between the communities to restore peace and prevent further escalation.
Intercommunal clashes are relatively common in Chad and are often triggered by disputes over resources such as water and land.
