Xinhua reported on Sunday that Iran’s Foreign Ministry had officially designated Britain’s Royal Navy, Royal Air Force and Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) as "terrorist and hostile" entities. The announcement was issued in Tehran after a resolution adopted by Iran's Supreme National Security Council, according to the ministry’s statement.
The ministry said the decision was a retaliatory response to what it described as the UK’s anti‑Iran policies over the past year, which it claimed violated the United Nations Charter and international law, particularly principles of national sovereignty and the prohibition of unlawful measures against other states.
In its statement, the Iranian Foreign Ministry highlighted several actions it considered hostile, including the UK’s support for military bases and facilities that could be used in conflicts against Iran and the UK’s designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a threat to national security.
The decree is described by the ministry as being adopted in accordance with international law and the principle of reciprocity. It warned that British government officials would bear responsibility for the consequences of the designation, reaffirming Iran’s determination to safeguard its national security and interests.
