In brief

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said a U.S. aircraft fired precision munitions at the stern of the M/V Huda in the Gulf of Oman, forcing the crew to abandon ship. The vessel had ignored warnings and attempted to breach a U.S. naval blockade after visiting an Iranian port. Since July, U.S. forces have redirected 147 commercial vessels and disabled five merchant ships that refused to comply, and have destroyed 10 Iranian commercial oil tankers.

U.S. forces struck and disabled a commercial cargo vessel in the Gulf of Oman on Saturday, according to U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM).

The vessel, the M/V Huda, is flagged by Saint Kitts and Nevis. CENTCOM said a U.S. military aircraft fired precision munitions at the ship’s stern, disabling the vessel and forcing its crew to abandon targeted spaces.

According to CENTCOM, the M/V Huda had attempted to leave regional waters after visiting an Iranian port and had repeatedly ignored warnings, trying to breach the U.S. naval blockade against Iran.

Since July, U.S. forces have redirected 147 commercial vessels and disabled five merchant ships that refused to comply with the blockade, CENTCOM added. U.S. forces had previously destroyed ten Iranian commercial oil tankers, alleging they were part of a shadow network operated by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
