In brief
Open‑source flight tracking shows multiple C‑17 cargo aircraft leaving Texas’s Biggs Army Airfield for Israel’s Ovda Air Base, raising the possibility of an additional Patriot battery. The flights, part of a 16‑flight schedule, coincide with broader U.S. military repositioning across the Middle East and Europe.
Open‑source flight‑tracking data announced on November 3 showed a new wave of U.S. C‑17 cargo planes departing Biggs Army Airfield at Fort Bliss, Texas, carrying Patriot air‑defense equipment to Israel’s Ovda Air Base. At least six aircraft were part of the second group, and when the group completes its journey the total count of flights from Biggs to Ovda is expected to reach 16, reportedly indicating the shipment of a full Patriot battery rather than a limited engagement package.
Earlier this week, eight C‑17s had already reached Ovda, and the latest movements followed another C‑17, operating under the call sign REACH 324, that departed Monday for Gander International Airport in Canada. That departure was separate from the eight flights to Israel and has been linked by analysts to further preparation for a possible new Patriot deployment.
The airlift coincides with a broader pattern of U.S. military cargo movements across the Middle East and Europe. After leaving Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar at the start of the war, a C‑17 departed on November 1 for Ramstein and Spangdahlem bases in Germany. Another C‑17 flew from Pope Army Airfield in North Carolina to Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait, and two aircraft from Kuwait departed for Davis‑Mothan Air Force Base in Arizona. In the United Kingdom, the U.S. military continued to withdraw support equipment from RAF Fairford, sending two C‑17 aircraft over a 48‑hour period; one flew to Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota and the other presumably returned to base.
These coordinated movements, according to Anadolu Agency, suggest a significant U.S. effort to reposition key air‑defense assets in the region and reinforce support to Israel amid ongoing tensions.
