On Friday, former President Donald Trump confirmed that U.S. forces performed what he described as minor strikes against Iranian air‑defence systems on Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz. He asserted that Washington has made “a lot of progress” in talks with Tehran. Only CBS News reported that Trump intends to decide soon whether to order further strikes.
Former President Donald Trump confirmed on Friday that U.S. forces carried out minor strikes against Iranian air‑defence systems on Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz, United Nations‑sensitive maritime corridor for oil shipments. He characterised the attacks as defensive, saying the U.S. “knocked out a little‑bit‑of‑an‑anti‑aircraft device in about 15 minutes, maybe five.” Trump also said Washington had “a lot of progress” in negotiations with Tehran.
Both Al Jazeera and Associated Press reported the U.S. military carried out the strikes. Al Jazeera’s report detailed that the U.S. struck an air‑defence system and that U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) called the situation “relatively calm.” CENTCOM, according to Al Jazeera, also announced a reward of up to $20 million for information about Iran’s nuclear program.
Iranian state media, IRIB, reported that two missile strikes occurred in the Suza area of Qeshm Island and that the Iranian army destroyed an American MQ‑9 drone over the island. Both Al Jazeera and the Associated Press referred to the Iranian signals of explosions and a drone shoot‑down.
Trump said the administration was engaged in talks with representatives from Tehran, expressing optimism that a deal was being reached. He remarked, “We’ve made a lot of progress with Iran,” without providing details.
Only CBS News reported that President Trump says he will make a decision soon on whether to order new strikes on Iran, indicating that future actions are pending.
