Xinhua reports that on Tuesday, an exchange of fire with militants during a polio vaccination campaign in Mohmand district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northwestern Pakistan, killed two police officers and left a third wounded.
According to the police, the injured officer was shifted to a nearby hospital while the militants fled the scene. The area has been cordoned off for investigation and no group has yet claimed responsibility.
Polio remains endemic only in Pakistan and Afghanistan, where regular vaccination campaigns are conducted to immunise children against the disease.
