In brief

On Nov. 7, Moscow announced a wide‑scale overnight assault on Ukraine’s military‑industrial sector and energy infrastructure near Kyiv, claiming hits on the Northern Bridge and the Meridian missile plant. The defence ministry said several power plants, a substation and a munitions factory were damaged, and an additional substation in the Zhytomyr region and a cargo vessel in the Black Sea were targeted. Reuters reported the claims as stated by the Russian defence ministry.

On the night of Nov. 7, Russia said its forces carried out a massive overnight strike on the Ukrainian military‑industrial sector and on energy and transport infrastructure around Kyiv, according to a statement from Russia’s defence ministry reported by Reuters.

In Kyiv, the ministry said the “Northern Bridge” – described as a supply route for weapons, military equipment and vehicles for the Ukrainian armed forces – was hit, as was the “Meridian” plant, which Russia claims produces Flamingo cruise missiles.

The ministry also reported that the strike damaged several energy and industrial facilities in the Kyiv region, including a power plant, an electricity substation and a munitions manufacturing facility.

Additional damage was said to have occurred at an electricity substation in the Zhytomyr region, as well as to a cargo vessel in the Black Sea that was transporting military equipment and dual‑use goods to Ukraine.

Reuters reported the claims in a story by Maxim Rodionov, citing statements made by Russia’s defence ministry at the time.
