The Association of Bulgarian Folk Groups Abroad (ABFGA) celebrated its 10th anniversary with a concert at Sofia’s Joy Station on Saturday night, 10 November 2026, under the patronage of Bulgarian President Iliana Iotova, BTA reports. The event showcased international folk ensembles from Europe and the United States, bringing together Bulgarian dancers and singers from around the world.
Among the performers was the international folk ensemble Mladost na Megdana, which comprises dancers aged 15 to 25 from 19 Bulgarian folk groups based in the United Kingdom, France, Germany and the Netherlands. The group highlighted the shared love for Bulgarian songs, dances and traditions.
Another key act was the international dance ensemble Gurbetchii, consisting of 55 dancers from more than 25 Bulgarian folk ensembles across Europe and the US. The organisers described Gurbetchii as “more than just a dance ensemble…a symbol of the unity of Bulgarians around the world.”
The Pastra Kitka Folk Choir, a collective of seven choral groups, also performed. ABFGA staff said the choir “symbolises what has been uniting us for 10 years – our love for Bulgarian songs, folklore and Bulgaria, no matter how far away we live from it.”
After the concert, attendees were invited to an after‑party featuring a folk dance floor, where dancers and audience joined hands to perform a communal Bulgarian horo dance, the organisers said.
"The highlight of the festive calendar will be today's concert, which will bring together on one stage performers from different corners of the world, united by their love for Bulgarian songs, dances, traditions, and Bulgaria," the ABFGA said.
