Police discovered three additional bodies in the home of the gunman who was apprehended after a shooting on Krakow’s Main Market Square, according to TASS. The find came days after the fatal event, which left six people dead and 15 injured, including three police officers.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk said:
We have confirmation. Two women and a man died in the criminal’s home. This is a truly exceptional tragedy. There are many signs that they are members of his immediate family.
Xinhua reported that the 24‑year‑old Polish gunman, who wore military clothing and fired a military‑type long‑gun, was arrested near Dietla and Stradom streets after police chased him through the square.
Polish authorities seized a large quantity of firearms and ammunition from the suspect’s vehicle and secured evidence at the scene, while the National Security Bureau and the Justice Ministry coordinated the investigation.
City officials, including mayor Łukasz Gibała, set up a crisis‑management team at city hall, urging the public to remain calm, while President Karol Nawrocki expressed sympathy for victims’ families and pledged a full explanation.
Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Władysław Kośniak‑Kamysz, Interior Minister Waldemar Żurek, and regional police spokesperson Katarzyna Cislo emphasized that there was only one perpetrator and that the suspect’s identity had been confirmed through operational work.
The investigation remains underway, with authorities continuing to review the suspect’s background, the chain of events that led to the shooting, and potential motives as they work with regional governors and security services.
Meanwhile, Polish security forces remain on high alert, and additional support will be dispatched to the Main Market Square as part of the city’s ongoing response to the tragedy.
