The Israeli Defense Forces announced on Friday, Oct. 30 that an airstrike on the Nuseirat area in the central Gaza Strip killed two Hamas military commanders, Ihab Jamil Abu Taqiya and Ibrahim Gihad Muhammad Abu Oshaiba. Xinhua reports that Abu Taqiya was a squad commander and Abu Oshaiba a platoon commander in Hamas’ military wing.

Both commanders were said to have advanced attacks on Israeli soldiers and civilians and were involved in restoring Hamas’ combat capabilities. Xinhua notes that Abu Taqiya had earlier held Israeli hostages while Abu Oshaiba was repeatedly accused of violating a U.S‑brokered ceasefire that began in October 2025.

The strike occurred after the ceasefire halted Israel’s large‑scale offensive, yet targeted operations continued. Xinhua added that the ceasefire calls for the disarmament of Hamas, a goal that has stalled in implementation.

Israeli officials claimed measures were taken to mitigate harm to civilians before the operation, while also asserting that the commanders had consistently breached the ceasefire. Xinhua reported that Israel carries out such strikes while striving to preserve civilian safety in the region.
