In brief

A Ukrainian delegation reached Oleshky and began evacuating residents under a temporary ceasefire. Officials said 527 evacuees would return to Ukrainian‑controlled territory and would receive medical care, while a BBC‑reported bus convoy could move up to 750 people. The operation was made possible through an agreement with Russian human‑rights officials and U.S. First Lady Melania Trump’s coordination.

A Ukrainian delegation has reached Oleshky, a frontline town in Kherson, and began evacuating residents amid a temporary ceasefire, Ukrainian officials said on Friday, Oct. 30, 2026.

Parliamentarian David Arakhamia said the evacuation would move 527 people back to Ukrainian‑controlled territory, with evacuees entering from Belarus, and they would receive medical exams, supplies and accommodation, according to Xinhua.

The mission was made possible by an agreement with Russian Commissioner for Human Rights Yana Lantratova and the coordination of U.S. First Lady Melania Trump, Xinhua reported.

Xinhua added that roughly 2,000 people remained in Oleshky and that the ceasefire would stay in effect until 10:59 p.m. Moscow time on Nov. 1, according to the Russian side.

"An evacuation convoy of 25 buses will allow up to 750 people to leave Oleshky until 14:00."

Ukraine's human rights ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets said the statement, as reported by BBC News.
