Adrián Simancas, a 23-year-old kayaker, had an extraordinary experience while paddling with his father in the Strait of Magellan off the coast of Chile when he was accidentally swallowed by a humpback whale. The Venezuelan kayaker immediately noticed a slimy texture brushing against his face and closed his eyes, realizing he was likely inside the mouth of a massive creature.

In a moment that felt surreal, Adrián thought about how he might survive this bizarre encounter, humorously referencing Pinocchio. Just as he began to comprehend the situation, he felt an upward motion, and before he knew it, he surfaced from the water, alive and unharmed. The whole ordeal was captured on video by his father, Dall Simancas, who was paddling nearby.

Dall, initially worried after hearing a crash behind him, was relieved to see Adrián emerge from the water. He noted that as he turned to check on his son, he could observe the large humpback whale, which he presumed caused the commotion. After reviewing the footage, Adrián was astonished by the sheer size of the whale, admitting that had he seen it fully, it might have frightened him even more.

According to Brazilian wildlife expert Roched Jacobson Seba, the encounter was unusual but understandable; humpback whales possess throats too narrow to swallow large objects like kayaks. He explained that the whale likely engulfed Adrián by mistake while trying to feed on a school of fish. Seba pointed out that such encounters remind paddlers and surfers to be extra cautious in areas inhabited by whales.

For Adrián, his experience was more than just a brush with danger; it provided him with a newfound perspective on life and a "second chance." He emphasized the importance of appreciating life and reflecting on the lessons learned from such a unique encounter, making it clear that a simple outdoor activity can turn into a life-altering moment.
