A humpback whale rescued after beaching itself in Germany has been found dead near a Danish island. Initially spotted stranded on 23 March off the island of Poel in Germany's Baltic coast, the whale became a center of a rescue operation. In early May, after being transported on a barge, it managed to swim free into the North Sea. However, despite the intervention backed by private entrepreneurs, wildlife experts expressed skepticism about the whale’s survival chances after its release. The whale carcass was located off the coast of Anholt, prompting the Danish Environmental Protection Agency to investigate. Though it has not been confirmed if this is the same whale, officials stated that there are no immediate plans for removal or necropsy of the carcass, simply urging the public to stay away as it could carry diseases. Concerns were also raised about the risk of explosion due to decomposition gases.
