The Arab League today demanded an independent international investigation into alleged torture and systematic abuses against Palestinian prisoners from the Gaza Strip held in Israel’s Ramla Prison, calling for unrestricted access by the International Committee of the Red Cross and immediate medical care for wounded detainees.
In a statement issued in Cairo, the League said several detainees in the prison’s Rakevet section had suffered injuries and burns from repeated acts of repression, citing inside reports of beatings, tear gas and pepper spray, rubber bullets and stun grenades.
It demanded the release of sick and wounded prisoners and warned that the alleged abuses violated international humanitarian law and constituted “crimes against humanity,” a claim reported by Xinhua.
The Palestinian Prisoners’ Media Office confirmed these assaults and noted that between 9,350 and 9,400 Palestinian prisoners and detainees were held in Israeli jails as of October 2026.
The League urged the international community and UN bodies to act to protect Palestinian prisoners and end impunity, underscoring the urgent need for accountability and oversight in the Israeli jail system.
