In brief
The Groundtruth exhibition opens Nov. 3, 2026, featuring 26 fiber‑based pieces that merge micro‑threads into pixelated details that coalesce into translucent colour fields. Parusheva, a seasoned Bulgarian textile artist, seeks to evoke the layered nature of human consciousness, stressing warmth and pure aesthetic experience.
From November 3 to 21, 2026, Serdica Gallery in Sofia hosted the opening of "Layers", an abstract textile exhibition by Valka Parusheva that probes the accumulation of layers in human consciousness and emotion.
The showcase contains 26 textile‑based works created over the past two years. Each piece employs a specific fabric in which individual threads appear like pixels up close; from a distance the threads blend into translucent fields of colour.
Parusheva, born in 1969 in Sliven and educated in artistic textiles at the Dimitar Dobrovich School of Applied Arts in 1988, has thirty‑five years of practice in contemporary art, textiles, and graphic design. She has participated in national group exhibitions since 1991 and has staged seven solo shows.
"I would like this exhibition to convey a sense of warm human presence and offer a purely aesthetic experience," Parusheva told BTA. Her ambition is to balance minimalism with compositional complexity and stimulate viewers’ perceptions.
The artist received the UBA award in the textile art section of the Grass and Water National Exhibition in 2026 and an accolade at the Dissonances National Exhibition the same year. Additional distinctions include the award for unconventional forms at the Sirak Skitnik National Exhibition in 2024 and the award for artist from the host city of Sliven at the 2018 Sirak Skitnik contest.
Parusheva’s works are held in the collections of the Union of Bulgarian Artists (UBA), galleries in Sliven, Yambol, Ruse, and in private collections across Bulgaria and abroad. She also spent 2016 in a residency at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris.
