Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Saudi Arabia on Thursday, emphasizing the potential of Ukraine's drone technology to bolster security in the Gulf region. In a message on social media, he stated, 'Important meetings are scheduled. We appreciate the support of those who are ready to work with us to ensure security, and we support them too.'

Earlier, during a video message to the Joint Expeditionary Force, Zelensky highlighted that the stability of European energy markets depends on Gulf oil and gas resources, making security in the region critical.

Zelensky noted, 'This matters because energy security - and the cost of living, particularly in Europe - depends on their oil, gas and other resources, and stable global markets.' He explained that Ukraine possesses not just drone technology but also vital experience in integrating this technology with existing defense systems.

In exchange for their expertise, Zelensky is seeking military assistance to enhance Ukraine's defenses against Russian attacks, particularly in acquiring more air defense systems from Middle Eastern allies. He has expressed interest in collaborating with Gulf states that possess advanced air defense missiles, stating, 'We would like Middle Eastern states to also give us an opportunity to strengthen ourselves.'

Ukrainian drone companies have been approached by Gulf states for collaboration, but the Ukrainian government has not yet given them the go-ahead to proceed. Noting the political complexities in arms exports, executives from Ukrainian firms emphasized their commitment to prioritizing Ukraine's security over business interests.

Recent reports suggest a growing alignment between U.S. military interests in the Middle East and Ukraine's need for drone support, making Zelensky's outreach to Gulf nations particularly relevant now. This visit marks a significant step in establishing new partnerships aimed at enhancing security in both the Gulf and Ukraine.
