A 36‑year‑old British woman lost her life in a heart‑breaking moment while trying to rescue her two sons from a powerful current off the southern tip of Bimini, Bahamas.
The Royal Bahamas Police Force launched an investigation after the officer on duty received a call shortly after 10a.m. on Tuesday that a woman was found unresponsive at the North Bimini Ferry Dock. She had been taken to a local clinic for medical assistance but was later pronounced dead by a doctor despite attempts to revive her.
According to the preliminary report, the woman was snorkeling with her husband and children near the island’s southern point when the sudden current swept both boys away. In her desperate effort to rescue them, she, too, was pulled into the water.
The sons were eventually rescued from the sea, but the mother, rescued to the ferry dock, could not be revived. Foul play has been ruled out, and an autopsy will clarify the exact cause of her death.
The Foreign Office expressed its condolences for the family, stating that they were in contact with local authorities and offering support to the bereaved.
