A 31‑year‑old British woman was killed after being stabbed at the Rosenheim railway station in Bavaria on the early hours of Sunday, August 30, 2026, according to Bavarian police.
The victim was attacked shortly before 01:00 local time (00:00 BST) and taken to a hospital where she died from severe injuries.
Police arrested a 27‑year‑old German man at the scene immediately thereafter. The suspect, from the Fürstenfeldbruck district, will face magistrate proceedings later on Sunday.
The background and motive for the attack remain under investigation, and authorities are asking anyone who may have seen an argument or physical altercation at the station late Saturday or early Sunday to come forward.
It is currently unclear whether the victim and suspect were acquainted or why the woman was in Bavaria, according to German news agency DPA.
Rosenheim is a major rail hub in Upper Bavaria, servicing routes to Austrian cities such as Vienna, Salzburg and Innsbruck. The Rosenheimer Herbstfest, a festival similar to Oktoberfest, is currently underway in the city.
Mayor Abuzar Erdogan said there were no indications of a security threat linked to the festival and that the criminal investigation department was working closely with the public prosecutor’s office to uncover the circumstances and motive urgently.
A Foreign Office spokesperson told the BBC that the UK was supporting the family of the deceased and remained in contact with local authorities.
