Israeli forces carried out a series of air and artillery strikes across southern Lebanon that left at least 17 people dead, Lebanese state media reported.
Nine casualties were buried after four separate strikes in Tayr Debba, east of Tyre. Receivers called it a southern city of Sidon was also hit, adding to the death toll and the Christian quarter of Massaken al-Shaabiya.
Hezbollah said it had mounted rocket barrages and shellfire against Israeli troops stationed in the south, chasing Israeli forces to the border. Meanwhile, the UN human‑rights chief has dispatched a team to investigate potential violations by all sides.
An international community has called for a ceasefire, and a UN investigation that is due to present findings at the end of July could help identify war‑crime responsibilities.
The conflict stems from a chain of attacks that began in March when Hezbollah launched rockets into Israel in retaliation for an Israeli strike that killed Iran’s top commander; subsequent Israeli air campaigns remain in full swing in Lebanon.
