WASHINGTON (AP) — Julie Le, a government attorney who infamously stated that her job ‘sucks’ during a court hearing focused on the Trump administration’s immigration policies in Minnesota, has been removed from her Justice Department position. Le's assignment was cut short by the U.S. attorney in Minnesota following her candid remarks made during a hearing in St. Paul.

In her address to U.S. District Judge Jerry Blackwell, she expressed a wish that he could hold her in contempt of court to get a break from her overwhelming responsibilities. What do you want me to do? The system sucks. This job sucks. And I am trying every breath that I have so that I can get you what you need, she reportedly said.

Her comments highlight the immense pressure currently placed on the federal court system due to a dramatic increase in immigration cases, particularly in Minnesota, which has seen its largest operation since early January.

Judge Blackwell responded to Le’s concerns, reiterating that the volume of immigration cases is not an excuse for failing to adhere to court orders. He noted that many individuals arrested during enforcement operations have faced prolonged detentions despite court orders for their release. Le stated that she had previously been an attorney for the Department of Homeland Security, working in immigration court, before her brief tenure in Minnesota, which she now describes as a mistake due to inadequate preparation for the role.

The surge in immigration enforcement has been echoed by several prosecutors who have left the U.S. Attorney's office in Minnesota amidst frustrations over the department's response to high-stakes immigration issues. The situation continues to draw scrutiny as advocates highlight systemic flaws in handling immigration enforcement and the treatment of detainees during this turbulent period.
