Hundreds of fans flocked to the streets of Paris to celebrate Paris Saint-Germain’s (PSG) monumental 5-0 triumph over Inter Milan in the Champions League final, leading to both joyous festivities and violent confrontations. In the wake of the celebrations, almost 300 individuals were arrested, primarily near the prestigious Champs-Elysees avenue and the Parc des Princes stadium, where a large crowd gathered to watch the match on big screens.

While the initial wave of celebrations included singing, dancing, and honking car horns, the atmosphere turned chaotic as flares, fireworks, and other projectiles were launched toward police. Cars were set ablaze and bus shelters vandalized, creating a stark contrast to the overall jubilant mood shared by many fans.

In response to the anticipated revelry, around 5,400 police officers were deployed throughout the city. Authorities noted that many of those detained were found with fireworks and were involved in instigating turmoil, particularly along the Champs-Elysees, where disturbances escalated.

Footage circulating on social media displayed chaotic scenes as revelers attempted to break into several shops in the area. In efforts to regain control, riot police utilized water cannons and tear gas against the crowds, with additional disturbances reported on the outskirts of Paris.

French President Emmanuel Macron acknowledged the monumental day for PSG, although his allegiance lies with rivals Olympique de Marseille. Minister of the Interior Bruno Retailleau condemned the violence, asserting that “true” supporters were celebrating peacefully while “barbarians” sought to provoke police.

Additionally, in a separate incident in Grenoble, a vehicle struck PSG fans, resulting in injuries to four individuals from the same family, with two suffering serious injuries. Reports indicate the driver has turned himself in, with police stating that the incident may not have been intentional.

In the midst of the aftermath, PSG is set to host a victory parade along the Champs-Elysees this Sunday, with tens of thousands anticipated to take part. Macron is also scheduled to meet the victorious team to congratulate them on their historic achievement.
