British Rapper Yung Filly Faces Retrial on Rape Charges in Australia
Yung Filly will be retried in Perth on three rape charges after a jury found him not guilty of several but not all the allegations.
The YouTuber, whose real name is Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos, was charged with repeatedly raping and assaulting a fan following a performance at a Perth nightclub in 2024. He denied all ten charges.
In the previous trial, the jury cleared him of three counts of rape but ruled him guilty of two assault charges. He was acquitted of one assault charge and a strangulation charge.
Barrientos was on a tour in Australia when the incident occurred. He allegedly had consensual sex with a 20‑year‑old fan in his hotel room and the fan later claimed he became violent and ignored her pleas to stop.
The West Australian court heard that at the concert venue the fan leaned over a barrier into the VIP area where Barrientos allegedly “fancied” her. When she and he went to his hotel later, he said the “vibes were good.”
During closing arguments, prosecutor Danielle Clarke described Barrientos as an “entitled” man who had violated the fan “in the most intrusive way possible.”
Barrientos’s defence lawyer argued that the accuser’s evidence contained inconsistencies, embellishments and outright lies.
He will next appear in court on 27 August to apply for bail variation, but a retrial date has not yet been set.
The prosecution has stated the complainant is willing to give evidence again. Sentencing for the two guilty assault charges will occur after the retrial.
Barrientos, born in Colombia and raised in the UK, is known for his work with the YouTube collective Beta Squad, appearances on Channel 4’s “Bake Off” Celebrity edition, and presenting on BBC Three.
