Thirteen people were injured during an unfortunate incident outside the Espanyol versus Barcelona derby match held on Thursday, when a car crashed into a gathering crowd of fans. Barcelona secured a 2-0 victory in the match, resulting in their La Liga title win. However, the event was overshadowed as the match was delayed for several minutes while officials consulted with police regarding the situation.

According to authorities in Barcelona, four of the injured individuals were transported to a hospital for treatment. Fortunately, none of the injuries were reported as life-threatening. In a statement shared on social media, police indicated that there were no risks posed to those inside the stadium.

The driver responsible for the incident was apprehended, facing charges of dangerous driving and causing injury. Eyewitness videos circulating on social media depicted the car, which had initially stopped between bins near the stadium, being encircled by excited fans prior to plowing into the gathering.

The collision occurred as espanyol supporters assembled to greet their team's coach. First responders dispatched ten ambulances to assist those affected, with reports indicating that the most serious injury recorded was a broken leg. Salvador Illa, the President of the Government of Catalonia and present at the match, reassured the public on Spanish television channel Movistar Plus that "it was an accident, some people were injured, but not seriously. There are no major incidents to report.”
