During a demolition derby in southeastern Australia, nine individuals were injured when a car crashed into a crowd, with one person critically hurt. The incident occurred in Walcha, where the vehicle, participating in the event, drove through a fence and hit the grandstand, according to New South Wales police.
The ages of the injured bystanders varied from 20 to 75, and the critically injured individual is a 54-year-old man. An investigation into the crash is currently underway.
Prior to the incident, the driver, aged 27, was reportedly involved in a collision on the track, which may have led to the accident.
The council organizing the event released a statement expressing their shock at the accident and promised to work closely with authorities to understand what led to the crash. Notably, Brendan Moylan, a local parliament member, and Barnaby Joyce, a former deputy prime minister, shared their sympathies on social media, highlighting the rapid response of emergency services at the scene.
