The United Arab Emirates sent official congratulations to the Governor‑General of Antigua and Barbuda, Rodney Williams, on his country’s Independence Day on 1 November, a record released by the UAE's state news agency, WAM.
President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan personally sent a congratulatory message to Williams, while Vice‑President Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum—also Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai—and Vice‑President Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan dispatched similar messages to both the Governor‑General and Prime Minister Gaston Browne.
These messages emphasize the longstanding friendship and diplomatic ties between the UAE and Antigua and Barbuda, which have grown through a range of cultural, economic and political exchanges.
The UAE’s outreach comes amid growing bilateral cooperation that includes trade, investment, tourism and educational partnerships. Both nations have highlighted the importance of maintaining peaceful, mutually beneficial relations.
Although no further statements have been released by Antigua and Barbuda officials, the gesture was welcomed by the Emirati leaders as a symbol of their continued partnership.
For WAM reporters, the congratulations came as part of the UAE’s broader efforts to strengthen ties with Caribbean nations and to promote friendly cooperation beyond the Middle East and North Africa region.
