In brief

Russian security services detained a teenage suspect believed to have planned an attack at the Tsaritsyno Museum Reserve after a U.S. embassy issued a warning of a credible threat. The suspect posted TikTok videos in a balaclava with what appeared to be an automatic weapon and his phone contained searches related to terrorism and a neo‑Nazi Telegram channel. The park was closed on Saturday and Russian authorities thanked the U.S. for the information provided.

Russian authorities detained a teenage suspect believed to be planning an attack at Moscow’s Tsaritsyno Museum Reserve after a U.S. embassy issued a security alert Saturday warning of a credible threat of a mass‑casualty event at the park.

The case was reported by Russia’s Interfax news agency citing the Federal Security Service (FSB), which said the minor posted TikTok photographs wearing a balaclava and tactical clothing and holding a figure that appeared to be an automatic weapon. The FSB added that a search of the suspect’s home uncovered the clothing and accessories seen in the photos.

“We are grateful to the American side for providing the information,” the FSB said in a statement.

Researchers at the FSB also claimed the teen’s phone had searches relating to terrorist attacks, mass killings, and a subscription to a neo‑Nazi Telegram channel. The Interfax report noted that the suspect had shared photographs taken at the park with the caption, “I found a place.”

The U.S. embassy in Moscow had issued the warning on Saturday, urging people to avoid the area; the park was temporarily closed in response. Russian officials said they were coordinating with U.S. authorities on a response and that the Investigative Committee was considering possible legal action against the suspect.

This development follows prior U.S. warnings to Russia about potential attacks, including a March 2024 alert that preceded an ISIL‑linked assault on a Moscow concert hall that left more than 140 people dead.
