A chaotic scene unfolded at a Christmas market in Magdeburg when a car sped through a crowd, leading to an alarming number of injuries and fatalities. Eyewitness Nadine, 32, recounted the tragic event as she held her boyfriend, who was knocked away by the approaching vehicle. "It was terrible," she relayed to Bild newspaper. Video footage captured the black car barreling into patrons, travelling for hundreds of meters further.

The boyfriend suffered serious injuries to both his leg and head. Another witness, Gianni Warzecha, described a sudden change in atmosphere while he enjoyed music with family. He recalled hearing “rumbling and the sound of shattered glass” as panic erupted around him. "I saw the car and people on the floor, people bleeding. There were also kids," he said, noting that the crowd provided immediate first aid in the chaotic aftermath before paramedics arrived to help the already overwhelmed situation.

Reporter Lars Frohmüller provided further insight into the chaotic environment, filled with emergencies as paramedics, police, and fire workers responded. “It was a big shock for everyone here in Magdeburg and for every person in Saxony-Anhalt,” he stated. Among the onlookers, Tobias Rausch, general secretary of Germany’s far-right AfD party in Saxony-Anhalt, expressed fear as he witnessed the terrifying moment.

Local officials have acknowledged the critical role played by the community in assisting the injured before professional help could arrive. A local resident, Heike Janke, who had left the market an hour prior, mirrored the sentiments of disbelief and sorrow shared among the citizens, lighting candles in remembrance of the victims. Corinna Pagels, an employee at a counseling organization, emphasized the importance of healing for both the community and emergency workers, stating that support resources would be essential in processing the events.
