On Tuesday, Philippine police in Bacoor City, Cavite, south of Manila, killed five suspects of an organized robbery gang in a shootout, authorities said.

The incident, reported by Xinhua, followed a planned robbery of a wealthy resident in an exclusive subdivision; police spotted the group during the plan, sparking a car chase and gun battle, the agency noted.

The gang, known locally as "Gapos", has been suspected of targeting large commercial establishments and private subdivisions throughout Calabarzon, according to police statements.

Two of the dead were linked to a prior jewelry store robbery in Cavite, police added, while the bureau is still verifying the group's connections to a series of shoe and pawnshop heists in the area.

Two other members escaped on a motorcycle, prompting an ongoing manhunt, the police said, and the search continues to locate the fugitives.

The incident follows a series of armed encounters for which police are already pursuing other officers, the agency reiterated.
